Looking for Job Opportunities for Teachers? We Show You How to Seize the Moment

December 19 2022

One of the biggest impacts of the pandemic on the Canadian job market was early retirements. Many working Canadians in the 55-64 age demographic, especially in health care and education, retired earlier than they’d originally intended. This has created many job opportunities for teachers.

In addition to early retirements, a long-term labour trend has also created greater demand for teachers. In the early 00s, there was an oversupply of students graduating with education degrees, creating a large number of unemployed teachers. Discouraged by a lack of job opportunities, many students avoided education degrees.

However, this trend has led to a deficit of teachers. In Ontario, for instance, teacher unemployment dropped from nearly 40 per cent in 2013 to 14 per cent in 2017, and by 2019, even before the pandemic, that number was in the single digits.

Here’s what you need to know to take advantage of these opportunities.
