Last week, Triton Canada took part in Web Summit Vancouver – one of North America’s premier events spotlighting the intersection of technology, innovation, and business. The summit brought together bold ideas and emerging trends that are shaping the future of our industry. Iain Murray, our VP of Business Development, was right in the heart of it all. Below, he shares his perspective on the experience, key takeaways, and insights that matter not just to Triton, but to anyone navigating the future of digital trust.

A Front-Row Seat to the Future of Tech

Last week, I had the opportunity to attend Web Summit Vancouver, and I’m still buzzing from the experience (and the coffee!). The energy in the venue was electric – a clear signal that Vancouver and the broader Canadian tech ecosystem are thriving. From startups to global enterprises, the spirit of innovation was everywhere.

Here Are Some of the Highlights and Takeaways from the Week

1. Tech Leaders from Around the World Came to Vancouver

Tech leaders and companies from around the world – Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, the Netherlands, Poland, Qatar, Ukraine, the USA, to name but a few – were among the 15,000 attendees. It was inspiring to see how some of the world’s most innovative minds are approaching similar challenges with creativity and purpose. The global exchange of ideas was a reminder that innovation knows no borders.

Even more energizing was the time spent with entrepreneurs who are building for impact. Growth, change, and a better future were consistent themes in every conversation. There’s a shared sense that technology – when used responsibly – can truly move the world forward. Naturally, AI was a hot topic.

2. AI is a Force Multiplier When Used Properly

If I had a nickel for every time AI came up! AI is a transformative power that is reshaping industries and accelerating possibilities. But like any real superpower, AI must be respected and intentionally harnessed. The conversations around responsible use, ethical deployment, and human-centric design were some of the most thought-provoking of the summit.

Whether the subject related to Data & Privacy, Marketing, Agentic AI, or Coding, the message was clear – embrace it, but don’t dive into the deep end. AI can review code and make recommendations, but don’t commit blindly.

3. Rage Baiting is Here to Stay

See what we did there? In all honesty, influencers big and small have caught onto this trend. Here’s hoping it comes to an end soon. Web Summit featured some terrific sessions on these latest marketing trends and how social media algorithms seem to dislike nuance, rewarding obsessive adherence to an audience’s desired content.

That’s one potential explanation for the polarized media landscape we find ourselves in, where balanced coverage is not rewarded, but throwing red meat to your viewership and ignoring facts to the contrary seem to rule the day.

4. Triton’s Presence in Canada’s Technology Landscape

It was an absolute pleasure to reconnect with colleagues from Triton across the country, and many of our clients as well. There’s something special about coming together in person – sharing insights, swapping stories, and seeing how the work you do makes a tangible impact in the broader community.

Whether it’s a gig start-up screening contractors, recruitment firms, tech companies hiring international talent, or the latest marketplaces for coaches or realtors, Triton builds trust and creates safer communities across the country.

We are so proud to be Canada’s largest 100% owned and operated background screening company, and proud to power so much of our tech ecosystem.

Thanks to everyone who made Web Summit Vancouver such a powerful experience. Until next time!
